Hi there, I'm Jodi!

My name is Jodi. I am a clinical mental health counselor with several years of experience working as an advocate for others I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including LGBTQ /identity issues, depression, anxiety, life transitions, women's issues, and goal-setting. My goal is for clients to be able to take responsibility for their lives and find empowerment through being able to effectively problem-solve. I am happy to walk alongside and support you so that you are able to come to a place of healing. I look forward to working with you!

My approach

I utilize a blend of evidence-based techniques, primarily drawing from a humanistic perspective, EMDR, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and person-centered therapy. By integrating these methods, I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each client, fostering personal insight and practical skills for managing life's challenges.

My focus

I work primarily with LGBTQ clients and those who have experienced trauma. I also have a certification and specialization in working with family and domestic prevention.

My communication style

I am known for my warm, compassionate, and approachable demeanor, which helps create a trusting and safe environment for my clients. I use a little directness and a little humor to connect. I believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for effective therapy, and I strive to be genuinely present and attuned to my clients' needs. In our sessions, I foster an atmosphere of openness and acceptance, encouraging clients to express themselves without fear of judgment. I am an active listener, and I ensure that clients feel heard and understood. My interaction style is collaborative and client-centered. I engage clients in a dialogue, helping them to explore their thoughts and feelings at their own pace. I ask insightful questions and provide feedback that helps clients gain new perspectives and insights.

My journey to mental healthcare

One pivotal experience was seeing the transformative power of therapy in my own life and in the lives of those close to me. Witnessing how a compassionate and skilled therapist could help navigate difficult times and foster personal growth solidified my decision to pursue this path. A great therapist can be transformative. I find immense fulfillment in the therapeutic process, especially in creating a safe and nurturing environment where clients feel valued and understood. The ability to help individuals discover their strengths, overcome challenges, and achieve personal growth is profoundly rewarding. Each client's unique journey reinforces my commitment to this work and inspires me to continuously improve my skills and knowledge.

My goals for you

Clients working with me can expect to gain practical tools and strategies for managing their challenges, along with a deeper understanding of themselves. My ultimate goal is to empower clients to lead more fulfilling and balanced lives, fostering resilience and personal growth. Goal setting is collaborative, so that we're on the same page!

My first session with you

During our first session, my primary goal is to create a welcoming and comfortable environment where you feel safe to share your thoughts and feelings. I will begin by introducing myself and explaining a bit about my background and approach to therapy. I will ask you about your current concerns, your personal and medical history, and any specific goals you have for therapy. This is a collaborative process, and you are encouraged to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. Understanding your unique situation and what you hope to achieve from therapy will help us tailor our work together.
