My nick name is Maz Khan and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Houston, Texas. I will be only available for Telehealth. I work with Adults only (18+) and have expertise with anxiety, depression, ADHD and Trauma. I also help with: work life and personal/family life balance, divorce, grief and parenting. My approaches are dependent on what a Client may need, but I typically use a Client centered approach, Solution Focused approach, Cognitive Behavioral therapy and Acceptance and Commitment therapy.
My approach
My primary approach is to establish a strong connection and to build an alliance that will encourage and empower to help a Client meet their potential goal, on their time scale. I create and provide a none-judgmental environment that enhances hope and healing. I begin with a Client Centered approach that allows a Client to begin unpacking their reality of their needs for change. Via Narrative therapy and external processing a direction is generated and goals are set. Utilizing my certification in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy allows the process for a Client to understand their thought process and work on changing them to assist them to work for them instead of against them. Psychodynamic therapy is used to understand where or how those thoughts originated and what their unconscious meanings and motivations imply. Solution focus is primary in most sessions to navigate that work towards healing and mindfulness is attained. Acceptance and commitment therapy, behavior therapy, humanistic therapy and integrative therapy are all utilized as they are needed and dependent on each individuals needs.
My focus
I work with Adults only (18+) and have expertise with anxiety, depression, ADHD and Trauma. My approach fits people who would like to attain a change. My typical Client group are very diverse and may be feeling: overwhelmed, having low self esteem, need to develop boundaries, self critiquing, not motivated or have little interest in participating with life, having issues sleeping, sleeping too much, overthinking, having escalating thoughts, irritable in relationships/with family, struggling with grief, life transitions or with a suffering from trying to recover from a trauma/multiple traumas.
My communication style
My communication style is friendly, non-judgmental and open. I tend to use British Humor too. Feeling comfortable, establishing rapport and trust is the central perspective of exploring, creating and accomplishing goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
My need to use my compassion for wanting to help people is how I found this field. I was a participant and then a volunteer for a girls group in a youth center, in Manchester, England and that is where my story began. I later became a full time youth worker for the same project. I love that my job is not monotonous. Each Client brings a different story, where the author wants to write a different chapter from their last. That's where I come in. The writer has writer paralysis. I'm there to help them write an amazing Chapter. It takes time, but the Writer, uses their own strengths and resiliency to develop new tools to assist them with their goal. I have a Masters from Manchester Metropolitan University (UK) in Youth and Community work and a Masters from University of Houston in Social Work. My work experience includes working with; children in children homes, youth homelessness, family homelessness, women fleeing domestic violence, self help support group, seniors and hospice. I have a diverse background of working with multiple client groups, in multiple countries. This has allowed me to have a plethora of dimensions to build a therapeutic alliance with multiple age groups of client's.
My goals for you
I begin with a Client Centered approach that allows a Client to begin unpacking their reality of their needs for change. Via Narrative therapy and external processing a direction is generated and goals are set. I often ask the question: "How will you know you no longer need therapy?" That's usually how we set specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time oriented goals.
My first session with you
The first session is always used to build rapport and trust. It's a chance for a Client to assess whether or not we are a good fit. It's an opportunity for the Client to tell their story on why they feel they want and need therapy.
