My name is Alex Rakowitz, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW/LMSW) with 7 years of experience in the mental health field. I received my master’s degree in social work at UTSA. My practice focus is on individuals, couples, and adults/elderly looking for support. I like helping individuals manage the emotional challenges of any trauma, bipolar, depression; anxiety; relationship issues; adult ADHD; work issues, self-esteem issues, chronic illness, and adjustment to change. I have worked with Individuals and families for more than 15 years and 7 specifically on mental health (outpatient/Inpatient). I am an empathetic clinician who believes in change through a therapeutic alliance between therapist and client.
My approach
Strength-Based: I love helping clients discover and reaffirm the best in themselves in order to see their own value and act upon it. This will help them capitalize on their strengths rather than focusing on their negative characteristic. Cognitive Behavioral (CBT): CBT approach helps change thought patterns that lead to anxiety or depression. Dialectical Behavior (DBT): I have helped clients develop skills related to accepting past or harmful events by making changes through analyzing their behavior and accepting their feelings to move forward in life. Eclectic: Based on the idea that no single approach works for everyone and that each person. Personalized approach.
My focus
I have been working with Individuals, couples, and families for the last 15 years and the last 7 specifically in a mental health setting. Having worked with young and older adults for so many years, I've developed a tried-and-true playbook for helping you (a) identify the root cause of your challenges and (b) create a tailored plan that leads to measurable progress.
My communication style
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, and then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions I like my clients to feel safe and comfortable in every session knowing trust is paramount on both sides.
My journey to mental healthcare
As a Social Worker, I worked for Child Protective Services for 12 years and had the opportunity to help Individuals, children, and families who were struggling with multiple issues including mental health. I realized I could use those skills acquired specifically mental health and became a Clinical Social Worker. I have been in mental health for the last seven years and love what I do.
My goals for you
I work with each person to understand their concerns and issues. We will both create specific and achievable short/long-term goals, checking in periodically to ensure success.
My first session with you
In our first session together, we will have a kind and warm conversation about what brings you to therapy, as well as, any other relevant information that will help us develop a path to your goals. We will discuss what is important to you and how we can best fit therapy into your current life/schedule. We will discuss specific goals and the best ways to attain them.
