Hello, my name is Rick Schill and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over 25 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress, anger management, relationship issues, and coping with many life changes. My focus is helping others by promoting emotional support, self-exploration, and personal growth.
My approach
My approach to providing therapy is using a variety of modalities according to individual clients and situations. I use Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral, and solution-focused approaches to create a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors with the goal of gaining insight and making improvements in their lives.
My focus
For the past 25 years, I have worked in a variety of mental health settings including educational, forensic, residential treatment, and private practice. I have worked with both adolescent and adult populations and have experience in stress management, anger management, educational issues (ADHD, behavioral issues, social skills), and various adjustment issues in life. My main objective is to help clients reach their goals and learn to work through the frustrating and disappointing parts of life.
My communication style
My communication style is open, empathetic, and personable. My aim is to create a warm and trusting relationship in which clients can discuss thoughts, feelings, and behaviors openly and honestly.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey to becoming a therapist began when I was in the United States Air Force (USAF) and stationed at Misawa Air Base, Japan. I began taking my first psychology classes at the University of Maryland (Asian Division) and was highly influenced by my professor who was also a Clinical Psychologist. I have always enjoyed learning about psychology topics and it came fairly easy to me In addition, talking and building relationships with others is very easy and natural for me.
My goals for you
What are your goals for therapy? Did you achieve the desired results? Goal setting is an integral part of therapy. My approach to goal setting is to facilitate and support clients in developing SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Bound) goals.
My first session with you
Beginning therapy can be stressful for some and easy for others. During the first session, clients can expect to be put at ease and we will begin to get to know each other. Clients can expect to discuss background information and discuss issues that need to be addressed in therapy. In addition, clients can expect to begin discussing treatment plan goals.
