Kimberly Stapert Beard, MSW, LCSW has over 20 years of clinical experience. Kimberly strives to build authentic relationships founded on unconditional positive regard in order to facilitate holistic growth, hope, and healing.
My approach
My interventions are eclectic, strengths-based, and person-centered, empowering clients to meet their uniquely identified goals. Common theoretical approaches that I utilize include CBT, trauma-informed therapy, EMDR, and motivational interviewing.
My focus
Whether you are struggling with a temporary setback or an ongoing problem, I can assist you; there is HOPE. It is my belief that, as human beings, we all face life challenges, be they relational, personal, emotional, spiritual, or physical, and our mental health affects how we respond to these challenges. I offer individual, couples, and family counseling for youth (age 10+) and adults. Together, we will discover new meaning in your experiences while identifying opportunities for healing and growth. Therapy varies in length of time depending on your unique story, worldview, personality, and needs. I typically provide therapy homework in between our sessions. We will develop a treatment plan and goals during our first session and review your progress weekly. Establishing a relationship and a sense of safety is critical to a successful therapeutic outcome. My style of work with clients is interactive, collaborative, direct, and reflective of my focus on the transforming power of relationships. You will be an active participant in the therapeutic process. My theoretical approach is eclectic, solution-oriented, and strength-based.
My communication style
I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and affirming place where my clients are empowered to reach their identified goals and outcomes.
My journey to mental healthcare
I grew up knowing that I wanted to be a social worker. From a young age, I had a heart for those who were hurting and believed in the power of hope. In addition, my six siblings and I were all adopted, and this introduced me early on to the social work field. In my late teens, my brother committed suicide, and his death strengthened my resolve to help those with mental health and substance abuse issues. Since graduating with my MSW in 1997, I have worked in a variety of settings, including child welfare, corrections, psychiatric hospitals, a community-based outpatient clinic, an emergency room, the VA hospital, and a nonprofit grassroots organization that I founded. Over the past 10 years of my life, I have been a part-time therapist for group private practice organizations in Michigan and Texas. In June 2022, as an empty-nester in her golden years, I started my own private practice, Hope to Heal Therapy. I truly believe that my life experiences, training, and professional background have all shaped who I am and my therapeutic practice today. To me, engaging in the process of psychotherapy with clients is a great honor. I value establishing a safe, honest, and trusting therapeutic relationship. If you are in need of a seasoned, genuine, nonjudgmental, and respectful counselor who seeks to empower you to overcome your challenges and transform your life, please contact me.
My goals for you
We will develop a treatment plan and goals during our first session and review your progress weekly.
My first session with you
The first session is where your journey begins. We will discuss in detail your presenting concerns and needs that have brought you to therapy. I will review your family history and background, which helps me to get to know you and may also be helpful for you to discuss the timeline of your life. We will then establish a treatment plan and your treatment goals. We will also discuss your expectations for therapy, confidentiality limits, and the importance of therapy homework.
