My name is James Albert. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I'm residing in the Dallas Fort Worth area in Texas. I work with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with individuals seeking help with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, assertiveness, or other mental health concerns. I use a variety of modalities in my practice such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered, and Motivational interviewing to help my clients achieve their mental health goals.
My approach
My approach to therapy varies based on the needs of each client. I frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered, and Motivational interviewing. I am open to any Modality that helps the client reach his or her goals. Establishing rapport is the key to building trust and a safe place to open up comfortably when communicating their issues.
My focus
I have found that my approach is a good fit for adults as well as mature teens who may be struggling with faulty thinking, low self-esteem, or assertiveness. Life can be challenging no matter the age. Like many therapists, I strive to present several different ways to look at solutions and challenge faulty thought processes. I encourage the client to embrace change to achieve their desired expectation.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, empathic, friendly, and inviting. I want my clients to feel they're in a safe place to express their concerns. I want clients to feel as though they are being heard without feeling judged. I decided to become a therapist because I like hearing individuals' stories. I like instilling hope. I believe in staying positive.
My journey to mental healthcare
My time as a correctional officer led to my curiosity in finding out how individuals came to find themselves in Prison. I became fascinated by hearing individuals' stories. I became aware that people from all walks of life can find themselves in an environment like prison based on decision-making skills, self-belief, and bad influences. This experience turned me to counseling. I decided to become a therapist because I wanted to help people. I enjoy seeing the change in individuals. I enjoy instilling Hope.
My goals for you
Building trust, demonstrating empathy, and creating a safe place are essential to setting goals and achieving the client's expectations in therapy. My approach to goal setting with clients is to find out what the issues are. We will explore the desired outcome expected to be achieved through therapy. We will work on forming solutions to achieve the desired expectations. Client will then put the plan to work they have to see if this will achieve the desired goal.
My first session with you
What you can expect from our first session is to find out what's bringing you to counseling. This is the time to build rapport, actively listening to what the reported issues are from the client's perspective. The first session is about us building an initial connection. (Breaking the Ice). The goal is to create an environment that allows the client to be comfortable speaking about anything with no concern about being judged.
