Bruce Buirkle, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC; Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); and Attorney at Law (Licensed in Texas Family Law). I do Individual, Marriage/Couples, and Family Counseling. I use a variety of approaches always keeping in mind what is best for this/these clients. My approach is goal-directed and employs practical things that can be used right away. Lately, I have been working with couples more than half the time.
My approach
I often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavior Modification which holds that our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations, and behavior are all connected and that what we think and do affects the way we feel. I frequently use other approaches as well.
My focus
I work with a variety of clients, especially couples and individuals, as well as families at times. If I had to name a focus it would be couples first then individuals second. I am comfortable working with all sorts of clients, and find I can effectively work with high-conflict couples.
My communication style
I am very supportive. I always tell the client this is a collaborative process, so their input is essential. I want the client to feel comfortable communicating their opinion.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been interested in being a therapist, at least back to my high school days. I like people and love to solve problems, so I collaborate with people to solve problems and help them find peace and happiness.
My goals for you
In goal setting the client needs to be "on board." These are goals the client wants and needs. We create goals that are clear and doable, we periodically reassess them, regularly measure them, making adjustments as necessary.
My first session with you
During the first session, I make sure the client is comfortable and by the end of the session, I discuss the treatment plan, how the process will work, and what additional input they may wish to include in any such treatment plan.
