Hi there, I'm Michelle! I am Michelle King, JD, LPC-S, a Licensed Professional Counselor and legal consultant with 13 years of experience working with adults and adolescents as individuals and groups. My experience has allowed me to serve clients in settings like inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, partial hospitalization programs, residential treatment centers, juvenile justice facilities, colleges, and adult forensics.
My approach
Cognitive-behavioral therapy has had some of the greatest success in research with various disorders, from phobias to anxiety to depression. This therapy is one of the few empirically validated therapies on the market today. Does that mean it will work for you? Not necessarily, but it's probably worth your effort to give it a try.
My focus
I typically work with adults, couples, first responders, athletes, executives, and college students. So, whether it's work stress, depression, anxiety, ADHD, adjustment to new transitions in your life, LGBTQ+ concerns, or pre/post-surgical counseling, I can help with brief solution-focused treatment.
My communication style
My approach is with empathy and compassion, along with a direct and straightforward style. Together we can challenge negative, ineffective thoughts and patterns and bring positive change to your life.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was drawn to the field of psychology as more and more people sought my advice and counsel growing up. I look forward to helping others become their best selves through brief solution-focused treatment.
My goals for you
Goals are important for everyone, whether they are in therapy or not. Goals help you navigate through life whether they are personal goals, professional goals, a goal to replace a bad habit or simply a goal for achieving success. Research shows that therapy is much more useful when it involves having a set plan for what you hope to achieve or accomplish. Setting goals can also give me a better grasp of your growth as you proceed with therapy.
My first session with you
Our first session together will begin with why you decided to come to therapy, us getting to know each other, and determining your therapy goals. Getting started in therapy can be scary, but we'll treat it like two friends talking. No stress.
