I am Frank Coulson M. Ed., LPC, Ph.D.- Philosophy of Psychology. As a counseling therapist, I believe that people have inner personal strengths and resources that can help them move from problems to possibilities and then their potential. My primary focus areas of my practice are anxiety, depression, ADHD, overcoming trauma and helping those who want to reach for more potential in their lives.
My approach
I am grateful for the opportunity to be trusted by clients to help them in their growth journey of overcoming difficulties in their lives and move on to flourishing. My goal is to come alongside and provide you with tools to reach your personal goals and overcome problems. My theoretical approaches focus on Cognitive Behavioral, Choice Theory, and Solution Focused. My Ph.D. research was in Positive Psychology so I use techniques from that and Mindfulness.
My focus
Over the years I have treated clients of all walks of life and faith with a variety of problem areas. My purpose is to team up you and find the breakthrough you need. My desire is in helping people overcome problems and move beyond being stuck to what I call, living a more than ok life. The majority of people I have worked with are dealing with anxiety, depression, ADHD, traumas, relationship issues and just being stuck in their place in life.
My communication style
Therapy is about you and your life journey. It is about what you want your future story to look like. So my desire is to set a tone where you are free to tell your story and then be a helper in guiding you to better chapters in your present and future.
My journey to mental healthcare
Throughout my high school years, I read a lot of self-help psychology books trying to work on my life. Also I was aware of many personal problems in family and those around me dealt with, so I was concerned about how problems affect people. The chaos of life caused to me not formally study psychology and therapy until later but I believe my early years of reflecting on the human condition moved me eventually more toward being a Counselor.
My goals for you
As I have mentioned therapy is all about you. I believe your goals are important in you moving into a flourishing life in overcoming your problems and moving into creating your best life. From the beginning the emphasis will be what do you want to get out of this counseling therapy experience.
My first session with you
In the first session I will let you know a little more about myself and allow you to ask any questions as you need to build trust in whoever you are working with. Then also in the first session we will explore together what you personally want out of the counseling therapy sessions.
