My journey to mental healthcare
I am energized by helping people gain insight into themselves and seeing people improve and succeed. I love helping to empower people with insight and tools for life. I love to help shine a light into the darkness to help people see a clearer picture. I have worked in the mental health field since 1996 and I have been a fully Licensed Professional Counselor licensed to practice psychotherapy in the State of Texas for 24 years. I have worked in various levels of care from intensive inpatient, supported residential treatment programs, and outpatient treating a wide range of mental health symptoms and behaviors, and private practice. I Specialize in Cognitive & Behavioral Psychotherapies, Reality Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Existential approaches, Substance Use Disorders/Addiction counseling, and other modalities modified to your needs. My graduate school work was in both clinical psychology and counseling. I have worked with and treated diverse populations and many people representing many cultures. I have experience working with and treating Mood Disorders such as Depression & Anxiety type disorders with evidence-based treatment modalities. My entire adult life I have also felt a natural connection with engaging people in contexts to help them see a bigger picture and gain insights into themselves. I have always seen the value in both mental health and physical health/fitness along with existential issues regarding purpose and meaning in this world we live in. I have a passion for helping improve their overall health which includes all domains of their life physical, mental health, purpose & meaning, social, relationships, and more.
My goals for you
Goals need to be "meaningful" to a Client and come from the Client. Number one, does a Client view a situation as a "problem?" Number two if they do, then do they see the value in being ready to want to change the situation? This is driven by the Client and as a Therapist, I meet my Clients where they are at and work with them going forward to help them see for themselves what changes and or goals they may have as a function of where they place value. At the same time, I am very honest with my Clients and will provide my professional opinion when necessary based on my clinical judgment of what path forward with regard to treatment approaches may offer the best chances or prognosis for their expectations and or preferred outcomes. When it comes to "Goals," what does it look like behaviorally speaking to achieve a goal? When working with me as your therapist I will help you gain insight into the necessary behaviors and or changes needed to achieve an outcome.
My first session with you
What to Expect in our first session: During our first session, I will use part of the session, typically the first part, to ask you some standard questions that are part of my methodology that I use to get a bigger picture perspective of you and your life and more information that will be helpful with having more context with helping you working towards developing more insight. Obviously, we are going to address your concerns too in our first session so I appreciate your patience with the first part of the session where I need to ask some questions that will be useful and essential. I look forward to meeting you and helping you work through your concerns and towards your goals.
