Hi there, I'm Keyonne!

Welcome to Spencer Counseling Services, where healing is not just a destination but a journey we embark upon together. I'm Keyonne Spencer, LPC-S, the owner and clinical director and the heart behind this haven of mental well-being. Let me share a bit about the chapters that have shaped my story. Armed with a master's degree in marriage and family therapy from Capella University, I've been navigating the realms of social and human services for over 15 enriching years. However, my journey is more than just professional; it's deeply personal. Originating from the vibrant streets of New Orleans, Louisiana, I carry the warmth of its culture and the resilience it instilled in me. As a licensed therapist in three states—Texas, Louisiana, and Florida—I've had the privilege of connecting with diverse souls across the southern landscapes. Imagine our therapeutic space as a tapestry where each thread represents a unique story, and together, we weave a narrative of growth and resilience.

My approach

My therapeutic approach mirrors the path of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the artistry of Narrative Therapy. Picture it as a compass guiding us through the labyrinth of thoughts and emotions, unraveling the stories that shape your reality. It's not just about addressing challenges; it's about rewriting the narrative and embracing the power within.

My focus

At Spencer Counseling Services, my client focus is on supporting BIPOC individuals aged 13 and up who are navigating challenges related to anxiety, depression, relationship issues, stress, or trauma. I’m particularly committed to creating a safe, culturally sensitive space where clients can explore their experiences without fear of judgment. My focus is on empowering each client to reclaim their narrative, fostering resilience, and promoting mental well-being through personalized care. I work primarily through telehealth, ensuring that therapy is accessible and convenient, especially for those who might face barriers to traditional in-person services.

My communication style

My therapeutic approach is integrative, with a strong foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy. I believe in the power of thoughts and stories to shape our reality, so I work with clients to identify and challenge negative thought patterns while helping them rewrite the stories they tell about themselves and their experiences. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, meaning that I tailor my techniques to each individual’s needs and goals. Therapy with me is not just about managing symptoms; it’s about fostering growth, building resilience, and helping clients reclaim their power and rewrite their future.

My journey to mental healthcare

My journey to becoming a therapist is deeply rooted in my personal and professional experiences. Growing up in New Orleans, Louisiana, a city rich in culture and resilience, I learned early on the importance of community, connection, and storytelling. These values stayed with me as I pursued a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. Over the past 15 years, I've dedicated my life to the field of social and human services, working across different states and connecting with individuals from diverse backgrounds. As a licensed therapist in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida, I’ve been privileged to walk alongside clients through their most challenging times. My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy, which allows me to help clients reframe their thoughts and rewrite their life stories. Becoming a therapist wasn't just a career choice; it was a calling, fueled by a desire to help others find their strength and navigate their own journeys of healing and growth.

My goals for you

Goal setting at Spencer Counseling Services is a collaborative process, designed to honor each client's unique story and aspirations. During our sessions, I guide clients in identifying their core values and aligning their goals with these values. Together, we break down larger objectives into manageable, achievable steps, creating a roadmap that feels both challenging and attainable. Using tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative Therapy, we not only focus on what you want to achieve but also on how the process of reaching those goals can reshape your narrative. Each goal becomes a milestone on your journey toward self-discovery and empowerment.

My first session with you

The first session is a welcoming space, where we set the foundation for our therapeutic journey. It's an opportunity for you to share your story, your struggles, and your hopes for the future. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy and explore your current challenges, but we'll also delve into your strengths and resources. Expect a conversation that is both reflective and forward-looking, where we begin to outline your goals and identify the best therapeutic approaches to support your healing. My aim is to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where you feel heard and understood, and where we start building a trusting, collaborative relationship.
