My name is Angela Murphy & I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Texas with 15 years of professional work experience. I enjoy helping adolescent & adult clients with a variety of life circumstances including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, grief/loss, self-esteem, life changes, career difficulties, separation/divorce & young adult issues.
My approach
I focus largely on Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Family Systems, and Strengths-Based approach. I believe that you are the expert of your story and that you have many strengths to assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. I will help to guide you in identifying those attributes, influences from your past, areas that need rewiring, and strategies for reframing your thought processes that are not helping to move you closer to your goals.
My focus
I love working with adolescents and young adults as they navigate a difficult transition embracing independence! I also enjoy helping clients of all ages overcome struggles surrounding anxiety, self-esteem, depression, life transitions, and family relationships.
My communication style
I believe in a very warm, supportive therapeutic environment. I will work hard to identify your learning style, guide you through your journey, and provide the appropriate level of support to help move you forward. Some clients need a very nurturing approach with lots of affirmation while others need to be challenged and pushed out of their comfort zone. I will work with you to personalize the best communication style for your unique needs.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always loved helping others! I started college with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. After struggling to master my Biology courses and engaging in therapy for the first time personally, I decided to take a change of course. I met with the Psychology Department and had a great mentor who introduced me to the world of Social Work. The best way to describe this field is a joint perspective that takes into account BOTH our individual human makeup (the brain, hormones, genetics, etc.) and our environment (upbringing, friendships, romantic partners, co-workers, etc.). I believe this education and perspective are ideal for working with the WHOLE person and implementing lasting change.
My goals for you
I believe that goal setting is a very collaborative process. I can offer insight, however, you are the best equipped to help us identify areas for growth.
My first session with you
I like to keep my sessions very casually professional! Our first session can often be overwhelming, especially if you have never seen a counselor before. But taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I applaud you for that and am here to support you in your process!
