My name is Josalynn Cartagena and I am an LPC who specializes in youth, women's issues, trauma, stress, anxiety, co-dependency, and boundary issues. I use modalities of CBT and EMDR.
My approach
I use CBT and person-centered methods which is a great way to get people to begin to speak about their issues, and have a-ha moments and form their own conclusions. For deeper past trauma and healing I like to use EMDR to help them heal and reprocess past negative memories that are keeping them stuck.
My focus
I work really well with youth ages 10 and up and teens and women going through life changes, boundary setting, and codependency issues.
My communication style
I will become a positive uplifting coach, cheerleader, ally, and support system to help validate, support, and affirm you. Together we will work towards your goals of mental health wellness and freedom.
My journey to mental healthcare
I was a bilingual early childhood teacher for 10 years. Going back for my master's and studying counseling, has been what I feel, a calling I was led to. It was my many years of teaching that naturally led me here. Many times, as teachers, we wear many hats. I had to be teacher, mom, nurse, friend, tutor, and counselor at times. The latter role is the one I enjoyed the most. I absolutely love what I do and do not take this calling lightly and its an honor to help others!
My goals for you
I listen to what is the most important thing that you need help with at this moment in your life that is holding you back and we set goals together with your input and then we tackle the different issues one step at a time until you are feeling relieved.
My first session with you
We will get to know each other and I will go over standard understanding of the counseling process and paperwork, and then we will begin to speak of your goals and I will have them formed by the next session or one thereafter.
