James Pobanz, LCSW, LCDC My goal is to create a safe space for you to bring your whole self. I believe sometimes you need to fall apart to start putting the pieces back together, and I hope to develop a trusting relationship with you so you can do just that.
My approach
As a counselor, I understand the bravery it takes to be completely vulnerable with another individual. My role in the counseling room is to meet you right where you are with respect, compassion, and non-judgment. I find it a privilege to journey with a client.
My focus
My expertise is working with individuals experiencing life stressors, including determining values and finding meaning and purpose in life, work-life balance, stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, parenthood, family stress, and the ending of a relationship, substance abuse, PTSD, Veteran veteran-related issues. I believe we all have a reason for how we got to where we are in life. The narratives we tell ourselves shape our identities. My approach is to help you understand new perspectives, gain control of your life, and envision a new future.
My communication style
My goal is to hold space for each client in a manner that allows them to safely share their stories, struggles, and hopes for healing. I truly strive to offer a calm, comfortable, welcoming, and non-judgmental space for all, and am constantly humbled by the vulnerable work my clients allow me to be a part of.
My journey to mental healthcare
Through my career in the Army which included several deployments in the Middle East, I saw firsthand how mental health issues can turn into mental illness when not treated, additionally how many mental health issues are preventable by having the correct outlet of services readily available. Those experiences and my own long trek of overcoming hurdles have fueled me to become an advocate for those who need someone to confide in and help guide them on this journey called life.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting in therapy is focused on meeting you where you are. I will work collaboratively with you, putting you in the driver’s seat of your treatment plan and well-being. I believe mutual trust in the therapeutic relationship and a feeling of acceptance in therapy are the most important tools for successful therapy.
My first session with you
