Sharon Carroll, “Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.” - Mandy Hale I work with individuals and couples to help them make the changes they are seeking in their lives, which may include: relieving the pain of anxiety, depression or grief; reducing stress; and overcoming difficult relationship or re-engineering important ones. My approach is varied and depends on each client's needs and style.
My approach
My theoretical approaches include person-centered, cognitive behavioral therapy, positive psychology, Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples, the Gottman method, and the Grief Recovery Method.
My focus
I work with a wide range of clients, including women and men individually and as couples. My clients range in age from older teenagers (minimum age 17) to older adults. My areas of focus are relationships, grief, and loss, life transitions/changes, stress relief, and mild to moderate depression or anxiety.
My communication style
I will create a safe, nonjudgemental space where you can share, explore, and heal. I want to get to know you; help you discover and clarify your goals for counseling; and collaborate with you to heal hurts, reveal strengths, and find a more meaningful life. I will vary my approach to meet your needs, what resonates with you, and what will help you reach your unique goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
My first career was in business. When I decided to make a change, I sought out a career that was meaningful to me and made a difference in the world. My greatest joy comes from helping clients work through or overcome relationship difficulties, walk through grief and loss in varying forms, move through various life transitions, and build the resilience that will aid them in meeting future challenges.
My goals for you
Goal setting is usually a collaborative process. Together we'll explore what has brought you to counseling and what you'd like to achieve as a result. Then we can look more specifically at how that translates into strategies that will allow you to achieve those goals.
My first session with you
The first session is about two things. First is my beginning to get to know and understand you and to gain clarity about what you'd like to achieve. The second is to see if we are a good fit. Do you feel comfortable talking to me? Am I understanding you? Is there an indication that you will benefit from our work together? To achieve these two things, you will have both the opportunity to share the pertinent things about yourself that will be important in our work together and to ask any questions of me that are helpful to you in creating a sound therapeutic relationship.
