Hi there, I'm Brittany!

My name is Brittany Miles Jacquote, but I go by Joyce. I am a licensed marriage and family therapist and a licensed chemical dependency counselor. I work with individuals, couples, and families to help create a better story and a better life than they are currently living.

My approach

I approach therapy from a Narrative Therapy perspective. As a Narrative therapist, I help clients tell their stories in order to understand better what about their current story they would like to improve upon. In the course of assisting the client in improving upon their story, I may pull from other therapy modalities to help the client gain the understanding, tools, or skills they need to live the story they desire to live.

My focus

I work with individuals, couples, and families. I typically work with clients who are experiencing some type of transition in their life, whether it be moving toward marriage or graduating from high school. With transitions often come anxiety, depression, fear, nervousness, and other emotions that can be overwhelming. I work with clients to help them have a smoother transition by learning how to address and cope with those overwhelming emotions.

My communication style

I create an environment in which a client can feel safe to open up and share. I want a client to know that therapy is a no-judgment zone. While therapy is a no-judgment zone, it does not mean that I will not be direct in pointing out alternative perspectives or behaviors for a client to consider in order to help them grow as a person and live the story that they desire.

My journey to mental healthcare

I became a therapist because I knew I wanted to make a positive difference, and I felt as though this was the best route for me to do so. It's been almost a decade, and I continue to feel that being a therapist is the best way for me to make the positive difference that I seek to in the world.

My goals for you

I believe that goals are only effective if a client is entirely on board; therefore, goal setting is a collaborative process. Goal setting does not happen in at the beginning of therapy, and it happens throughout the therapeutic process, as goals can be ever-changing.

My first session with you

During a first session, a client should expect to talk about what brought them into therapy at that time. In addition, a client should expect to tell their life story up until the here and now. While telling their story, the client should expect me to ask them questions in order for me to better under their story as they are telling it.
