Happy Hello! My name is Dayciaa Smith, Licensed Professional Counselor. I'm delighted that you are embarking upon the enriching and exciting experience of therapy with Rula Health. I am here to empower, encourage and enlighten you with resources and tools to make your personal investment in getting counseled beneficial and productive for you.
My approach
My approach to providing therapy is first and foremost, client-centered/person-centered. I believe in unconditional positive regard toward all my clients. I often utilize cognitve-behavioral and dialectical-behavioral therapy, as well as Trauma-Informed Therapy for clients who have experienced PTSD. Additionally, I employ Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I implement various mindfulness techniques, at therapy, music therapy and several other forms of experiential therapy with clients.
My focus
I most often work with clients who experience anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, occupational and relational challenges, and family difficulties or issues, among other problematic conditions.
My communication style
I am very attentive, compassionate and empathetic when communicating with my clients. I create an atmosphere of safe space and acceptance for clients. I want my clients to feel heard, respected, and valued.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have wanted to be a counselor/psychologist since I was twelve years old. I have never seriously considered or planned for another profession. I was always drawn to the occupational field of counseling and therapy. I believe it is my calling and passion.
My goals for you
I typically set goals with clients during the first session, so that action steps can begin as homework assignments right away. Since my clients often come to therapy highly internally motivated, this strategy works especially well.
My first session with you
During a first session with me, clients can expect me to introduce myself, welcome them, ask if they have any questions of me, and then I will gather background information regarding the concerns with which they are presenting, so there will be context in formulating their treatment plans.
