Hi there, I'm Suzanne!

Hello, my name is Michelle Skinner and I am a therapist with specializing in depression, anxiety, stress management, grief and bereavement and work stress. I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life's challenges and work towards their goals in a supportive and nonjudgmental environment. I believe in the power of therapy to promote growth, healing, and positive change. It would be a privilege to work with you on your journey towards improved mental health and well-being.

My approach

My therapeutic approach is rooted in a person-centered and strengths-based perspective. I believe in creating a safe and supportive space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment. I strive to build a strong therapeutic alliance based on trust, respect, and collaboration. I also incorporate elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness techniques into my practice. CBT helps clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviors, while mindfulness techniques can promote self-awareness and emotional regulation. I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual client, using a combination of evidence-based interventions and personalized strategies. My goal is to empower clients to gain insight, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in their lives.

My focus

I work with a diverse range of clients, including individuals, couples, and families, across various age groups and backgrounds. I have experience working with clients facing a wide variety of challenges and mental health concerns. Some of the conditions and issues I commonly treat include: - Depression and mood disorders - Anxiety disorders - Stress management - Relationship issues - Grief and loss - Trauma and PTSD - Self-esteem and self-confidence issues - Life transitions and adjustments - Work-related stress and burnout - Communication skills - LGBTQ+ issues I am dedicated to providing culturally sensitive and affirming therapy for clients of all backgrounds and identities. Whether you are struggling with a specific mental health condition, going through a difficult life transition, or simply seeking personal growth and self-discovery, I am here to support you on your journey towards improved mental health and well-being.

My communication style

My communication style is characterized by active listening and genuine attentiveness. I prioritize creating a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and valued. I believe in the power of truly listening to my clients, allowing them to express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns without interruption or judgment. I strive to establish a strong therapeutic alliance built on trust, empathy, and mutual respect. By actively listening to my clients, I am able to gain a deeper understanding of their unique experiences, perspectives, and needs. I use reflective listening techniques to clarify and validate their emotions, creating a supportive and validating environment for exploration and growth. I also engage in open and honest communication with my clients, providing feedback, guidance, and support as needed. I believe that effective communication is essential in fostering a strong therapeutic relationship and empowering clients to make positive changes in their lives.

My journey to mental healthcare

I became a therapist because I genuinely care about helping people navigate life's ups and downs. I find joy in witnessing others heal, grow, and overcome challenges. It's inspiring to see individuals discover their inner strength and make positive changes. I'm here to support and empower my clients on their unique paths to healing and self-discovery.

My goals for you

My approach to goal setting with clients is collaborative and holistic. I prioritize building a strong therapeutic alliance and understanding my clients' values and priorities. Together, we set SMART goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. I break down goals into manageable steps, monitor progress, and adjust as needed. I celebrate achievements and encourage reflection on growth throughout the therapeutic process.

My first session with you

In the first session with me, clients can expect a welcoming environment where we will discuss their reasons for seeking therapy, set goals collaboratively, and establish a trusting relationship. I will gather information about their background and provide an overview of my therapeutic approach. We will also discuss logistics and expectations for therapy.
