My approach
I mainly use CBT to get rid of stinking thinking, those negative thoughts that can impact our emotions and behavior. During our sessions, I might use a mix of different techniques and tools I've perfected over the years as needed to give an individualized approach to each child, teen, woman, and family I treat. I believe therapy is a partnership between us, and my goal is to help you navigate your challenges, emerging stronger and more confident on the other side.
My focus
For the past 29 years, I've effectively collaborated with women, children, teens, and their families. I've also supported military members and their families, both veterans and active duty. With expertise in various specialties, my goal is to meet you where you are and help you get to where you want to be.
My communication style
Some clients say talking to me feels like chatting with a girlfriend who just happens to have professional training. I believe this has to do with my down-to-earth, collaborative approach. I use humor and storytelling to guide our therapeutic conversations and interventions.
My journey to mental healthcare
My cousin had a horrible car accident at 16 and was paralyzed from the waist down when his seat was thrown out of the jeep he was riding in. The Therapist both behavioral and physical at Shephard Spinal center worked with him for a year, to restore most of his ability to walk and his ability to overcome the trauma. This inspired me to become a therapist who also uses animals in the therapeutic process. The drive to do this work comes from seeing my clients living their best lives after plowing though the mud of their therapeutic issue.
My goals for you
We use smart goals that you create. This way they can be the goals you want and the goals you will actually work on. The main goal is for you to have so many tools in your tool box that you no longer need me as your therapist.
My first session with you
I feel I act as a detective first session by asking a whole lot of questions because a good history really helps with accurate diagnosis and treatment. It is also a time for you to get to know me and vice versa so you develop the comfort level the partnership takes.
