My name is Sonji Thomas and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker - Clinical Practice license # 16622. I believe that we all go through things in our lives, but how we deal with those things will make the difference in how we live our lives. My hope is to work collaboratively to improve quality of life.

My focus
Although I have worked with children and adolescents, I prefer working with adults addressing such issues as depression, anxiety, relationship issues, and other various personal and environment stressors.
My communication style
I want to create a welcoming and safe environment for individuals to be able to express their thoughts and feelings without judgement.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always wanted to "help" people, regardless of their circumstances. I have experience in working with children within the Department of Juvenile Justice, with children and adults within the mental health setting, with children and adults who have been affected by abuse or neglect, within the hospital setting ensuring that patients had what they needed to safely discharge from the hospital, and with clients who have End Stage Renal Disease. My ultimate goal within all of those settings was to try to improve the quality of life of everyone that I worked with. The improvement was more tangible than internal. My goal now is work with the internal processes of individuals to equip them with the tools that they need to deal with any issue that may arise.

I have a collaborate approach to goal setting. I believe that the client's participation is vital in reaching their goals. My role will be to help navigate the process.
My first session with you
The first session will be geared towards getting to know one another, reason for seeking therapy, the client's expectations from therapy, and my role as a therapist.
