Hello there! I am Dr. MiKi Kitchen, a LPC who has practiced for approximately 10 years. I strive to create a supportive therapeutic space where you can explore strengths via proven therapy techniques to motivate a more engaged you. I firmly believe life is more bearable when we share our burdens. Within that collaborative and interactive therapeutic relationship, you will be successful in understanding your reactions to life to live a more empowered and meaningful life.
My approach
Do you feel as though you are just coasting through life? Do you want to be more engaged and grounded in your experiences? When life becomes too hectic and confusing, we often feel frustrated, angry, and alone, and wonder “What is the point.” There is another way, another perspective! By utilizing your strengths, you will emerge from each session with a renewed curiosity and excitement for what is possible. You deserve a place where you can articulate the thoughts you crowd out as quickly as possible because of self-doubt, life traumas, or even just a sense of “Why bother.” You deserve the time to explore!
My focus
I specialize in trauma recovery, life transitions, life crises, anxiety/depression, attachment issues, and self-concept/esteem. Approaches range from narrative to trauma talk along with mindfulness and wellness.
My communication style
Safe and relaxed conversational narrative. Clients report finding comfort and peace of mind. Others delight in the collaborative rapport established which allows for clarity of thought and complete objective perspective which provide healing.
My journey to mental healthcare
I became a therapist because we seemed to have lost that front porch where we could have a conversation about life struggles and achievements. I also have the advantage of being on the outside of your life, so I can find moments of brilliance that might be otherwise overlooked. I love "ah-ha" moments that occur during these conversations as they allow for a shift in perspective.
My goals for you
Collaborative and strength-oriented
My first session with you
Setting that first appointment is difficult, so, yeah you! At our first appointment, we will get to know each other, uncovering what style of therapy will work best for the issues relayed. I will be sincere - it is an interview - both for you and me! This way we can be certain we will work well together. So be prepared for questions - feel free to ask some of your own!
