My name is Heather Korpa, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based out of Pittsburgh, PA. I have been a practicing social work clinician for over 25 years bringing many years of clinical and personal experience to my clients. I provide individual therapy to adults coping with with life changes and challenges who need motivation to make a change, or those who seek support to develop healthy coping strategies. I also have experience working with caregivers, older adults, and aging-related concerns.
My approach
Every person and relationship is unique. I take the time to get to know the client and foster a trusting relationship. My approach to therapy is client-centered and goal-oriented. I listen to my client's story and provide an empathetic nonjudgmental environment. Together we will identify positive ways to make a change based on identified goals. I help clients draw upon their strengths to forge a new path.
My focus
I believe that my approach to therapy is best suited for adults who find themselves in the middle stages of life facing challenges often associated with this phase: life transitions, caring for an aging relative, stress related to work-life balance, and family conflicts. I have extensive experience working with older adults and caregivers in various settings (hospital, nursing home, and hospice). I understand the emotional and physical toll caregivers face and can provide goal-focused solutions to help manage their stress. I also have experience with medical social work, and work with individuals who face challenges related to chronic illness.
My communication style
I strive to create an environment that is non-judgmental and client-focused. I am truly an empathetic listener and take pride in getting to know my client's story. I also believe that sharing a smile and laugh goes a long way.
My journey to mental healthcare
I grew up in a family where we spent a lot of our time volunteering at various organizations. At a young age, I knew I would choose a career that would focus on helping others. I have a passion for working with people and truly respect everyone's individuality. After working for many years in hospitals and mental health settings, I wanted to devote more time to providing individual therapy which led to me to this opportunity.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting by building a trusting relationship with my clients and setting goals based on their individual needs and strengths while respecting their preferences and values. During our time together goals will mutually be agreed upon and we will alter and adjust as goals are met and new goals are identified.
My first session with you
During our first session, the majority of the time will be spent getting to know you and the reason you are seeking therapy. My hope is to create a comfortable welcoming platform allowing you to openly share information about yourself so we can build a relationship starting on day one. I also want to use that first session to ensure we are a good fit, and that you are comfortable with me.
