I’m Lindsay Repko and I’m a psychotherapist committed to offering you a protected place to effectively explore the depths of who you truly are and what you want for your life, whether your experience of suffering is old or new. This sounds simple, but our modern society can make such a space hard to find, and cultural norms or taboos can pressure us to hide parts of ourselves in shame. When this happens, people often push relationships away that they need and experience pain and isolation. We'll collaborate to establish a dedicated, trustworthy space where I can help you to dislodge stuck, unsatisfying patterns and reveal paths toward greater understanding, joy, satisfaction, pleasure, and vitality for your life. My approach
I approach this work psychodynamically (in other words, a belief that we can be both aware and unaware of what's ailing us and it's good to explore both to find relief) and relationally (i.e., our relationship and your relationship with others matters)! My work is informed by principles of eco-psychology, harm reduction, and yoga/meditation. I strive to be anti-racist, queer allied, and body peace/positivity oriented. Please note: If these approaches are new or sound strange to you, I'm also comfortable sitting with you and facilitating some understanding. You only have to bring yourself and your honesty!
My focus
Individual adults, teens, parents, and couples in my practice are struggling with symptoms of depression or anxiety as a result of one or a few of the following: a major life transition (new marriage, baby, or identity shift), burnout from a high-stress, toxic, or "exceptional" work or school environment, a relationship rupture (friendship, familial, or romantic partnership), new to therapy and feel unsure of where to start, grappling with destructive coping strategies (i.e., addictions or compulsions), a recent isolated trauma, complicated trauma over time, and experienced or are anticipating a loss.
My communication style
I would describe myself and the tone I set as warm and engaging. I truly enjoy a dialogue with folks. While I may seem quiet at times, I aim to inspire a sense of trust that I'm listening deeply and compassionately, often on many levels. I look forward to discussing what I'm noticing with you and hearing what resonates with you. I can bend toward practical suggestions or share deeper insights, and I like to think that I’m nimble and responsive throughout our time together.
My journey to mental healthcare
Psychology and people have always fascinated me, and I think my initial realization that it might be a career came while watching a PBS documentary on severe mental illness in the early 80's. Experientially, as I think is true for many therapists, striving to understand the impacts of my own life experiences on my life choices and relationships has changed my life for the better. Although painful at times, I uncovered my own agency and empowerment. I'm driven to inspire this curiosity and clarity for others in collaboration with them. People deserve peace, ease, and to feel alive. These principles and witnessing this process work with my patients drive my work.
My goals for you
We co-create the goals for our work together and I see this as a dynamic, evolving process that we can check in about at least monthly. Some people find goal setting to be immensely helpful to their experience and others would rather not center setting goals. I like to meet you where you are with this and design our process around what feels most helpful to you.
My first session with you
In our first session together, expect that nervousness might be present, but I’m hopeful that our conversation will feel full of ease and reduce some discomfort! We’ll spend the bulk of our time together discussing the nature or landscape of what you’re experiencing and any pertinent details of your life story that you think are important for me to know. If it’s helpful to you for me to ask a series of questions, I can, but I generally start by encouraging folks to share what comes to mind. We’ll also briefly talk through details or questions related to paperwork, the Rula platform, and my practice policies.
