Hi there, I'm Brian!

Hey there! I'm Brian Mullan, a licensed professional counselor. I believe firmly in client empowerment and autonomy, and I work with individuals to overcome challenges in order to achieve their maximum possible growth.

My approach

My approach is client-centered and emphasizes holistic wellness. My preferred theoretical approaches include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment (ACT), and solution-focused therapy, utilizing a feminist and multicultural lens.

My focus

I specialize in working with anxiety, depression, trauma, survivors of racial trauma and injustice, and members of the LGBTQIA+ communities. I use a trauma-informed perspective to meet you where you are and hold out a light for us to walk a path together.

My communication style

I strive to create an environment where clients feel safe, empowered, and in control. We will emphasize mindfulness and symptom management in order to get relief and open space for holistic healing.

My journey to mental healthcare

I love my job. I really do! Years ago I worked as a community organizer, and in my travels, I encountered many wonderful people who could benefit from having a safe space to voice their hopes, aspirations, and fears in a nonjudgmental atmosphere. I have been striving to create just such a space in my counseling environment. It is difficult to put into words the joy of witnessing individuals make informed choices and embrace autonomy and empowerment on their own.

My goals for you

Clients are in the driver's seat in setting goals. Once we identify a target goal, I assist with helping find incremental steps on the path from here to there. I utilize evidence-based SMART goal techniques for maximum efficacy.

My first session with you

We will spend some time going over consent, confidentiality, and client empowerment strategies. My hope is that the client will be able to identify at least two goals they would like to work on together. The real goal of the initial session is for the client to ensure that they feel I am a good fit for them and that my approach is best suited to reach their goals.
