My name is Melissa M Brown, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist in Pennsylvania. I recognize seeking therapy can be a significant step in taking control of your life's journey, so I provide an empathetic and supportive environment to help you grow. I utilize an integrated approach in my practice, drawing upon client-centered, psychodynamic, and CBT-based modalities.
My approach
My approach to therapy is one driven by the client and what their needs are, based on the goals. I draw upon several different modalities to help clients develop a deeper understanding of the "why" and ensure they are moving forward.
My focus
My vast training has yielded and afforded me an opportunity to work with numerous populations. However, I do tend to have a better fit and connection with young children, families, and adults. These populations often experience similar distresses of anxiety, depression, ADHD, and life transitions.
My communication style
I recognize therapy can be an intimidating space for some, therefore, I try and create an environment in which one feels safe to share what is on their mind. My intention is to set the stage so the client can feel most authentic in that therapy hour. I often listen intently and have compassion.
My journey to mental healthcare
Like so many individuals who are in the mental health field, I was drawn to psychology out of a deep-seated desire to understand human behavior, emotions, and thought processes. I am passionate about helping others navigate life's challenges, fostering personal growth, and promoting mental well-being. Becoming a psychologist allows me to combine my innate curiosity with a profound commitment to making a positive difference in people's lives.
My goals for you
I believe in collaborative goal-setting with my clients, where we work together to identify and prioritize the areas they want to address in therapy. By establishing clear, achievable goals that align with their values and aspirations, we create a roadmap for their therapeutic journey. Through ongoing assessment and feedback, we adjust and refine these goals to ensure they remain relevant and meaningful throughout the therapeutic process.
My first session with you
In the first session, clients can expect a warm, welcoming environment where they have the opportunity to share their stories and discuss their reasons for seeking therapy. Together, we'll explore their goals, concerns, and hopes for therapy, laying the foundation for a collaborative and supportive therapeutic relationship.
