Hello! My name is Ms. Tam, also known as Ms. Hicks, and I am a licensed mental health professional ready to accompany you on this journey. I am based in North Carolina, my home state, and hold an active license in Oregon for virtual services. I am delighted that you have chosen me as your therapist. My expertise lies in aiding clients who are grappling with Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, and Stress. Depending on each client's unique needs, I draw from a variety of theories and employ diverse techniques. My commitment is to assist individuals in surmounting challenges and equipping them with effective tools for their personal toolkit. I eagerly anticipate our shared success stories.
My approach
My counseling approach is eclectic, incorporating Person-Centered Therapy, concepts of Family Systems, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I hold training or certifications in the following modalities: DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Trauma-Informed Care, and EMDR.
My focus
I've come to understand that I'm not the right fit for everyone, and not everyone is the right fit for me. In my professional capacity, I bring a unique energy. Therapy is a journey where the client takes the wheel and the therapist rides shotgun, guiding the process. Clients eager to delve into their pain, discomfort, confusion, turmoil, or sorrow will find a good match in Ms. Tam. Those who draw on hope, spirit, experience, and the unknown will also resonate with my approach. It's beneficial for clients to stay open-minded for at least 3-6 sessions following the initial assessment to accurately gauge changes in their symptoms.
My communication style
I utilize an assertive communication style, maintaining healthy boundaries, coupled with a fun-loving attitude and a purposeful approach. The initial session is designed to delve into areas that will begin the exploration process, opening doors to rooms and spaces the client may wish to investigate further. I advise a minimum of three sessions to enhance your toolkit for managing symptoms.
My journey to mental healthcare
For the past decade or so, I have embraced my calling as a therapist, a path my mother predicted for me as soon as I began to walk and talk. I am passionate about listening, understanding the mind, and nurturing the soul. I enjoy it immensely, and I excel at it.
My goals for you
Through our supportive relationship, we'll gain insights, devise a treatment plan, and define your therapy objectives. These goals are flexible and can be revised at any point in your therapy journey. Let's take the next steps towards wellness together.
My first session with you
Our initial session will include assessments and the start of our getting-to-know-you phase. We'll identify the thought and behavior patterns that affect your life satisfaction and address any overarching issues to help set your wellness goals. The initial appointment will involve various interview questions to establish a diagnosis, if applicable.
