Hi there, I'm Haley!

Hi, My name is Haley Harmer and I am a licensed professional therapist. I have been doing therapy for about 10 years now working as a therapist primarily with children, youth and families but I definitely love working with all individuals. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including trauma, abuse, depression, anxiety, boundaries, relationship issues, family dynamics and parenting problems to name a few. My education and experience has caused me to have a well-rounded background in several areas of concern when it comes to the mental health of individuals and counseling.

My approach

My therapy approaches mostly come from using cognitive behavioral therapy, client-centered therapy and trauma-focused therapy but I tend to tailor my therapy approach and treatment plans to meet the unique and specific needs of my clients, which are all very individual. Some other approaches that I use include: Christian Counseling, Relational, Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Cognitive Reprocessing (CPT), Solution Focused Brief (SFBT), CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment-Based, Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT), Compassion Focused, Humanistic / Rogerian, Person-Centered, Play Therapy, Family Systems, Any/Eclectic (recommended), Positive Psychology.

My focus

I have worked with so many different people from ages 3 to 75 with a wide range of needs in the areas of Stress, Anxiety, Relationships, Family Conflicts, Trauma, Abuse and Depression to name a few. I love working with all kinds of people of different backgrounds, races and age groups! I get along with everyone! Some additional areas of focus that I have experience with include: Addictions, LGBT, Grief, Intimacy-related issues, Eating disorders, Parenting issues, Anger management, Self Esteem, Career difficulties, Bipolar disorder, Coping with life changes, Compassion fatigue, ADHD, Abandonment, Adoption and Foster Care, Attachment Issues, Autism and Asperger Syndrome, Blended Family Issues, Body Image, Caregiver Issues and Stress, Codependency, Commitment Issues, Communication Problems, Control Issues, Divorce and Separation, Family Problems, Fertility Issues, Forgiveness, Guilt and Shame, Impulsivity, Intellectual Disability, Isolation / Loneliness, Life Purpose, Panic Disorder and Panic Attacks, Post-traumatic Stress, Self-Love, Social Anxiety and Phobia, Women's Issues, Young Adult Issues.

My communication style

My therapy style is warm, inviting and very understanding. I'm here for my clients and helping them to the very best of my ability by showing respect, empathy, compassion and sensitivity to the needs of those who entrust me with their personal information. My heart is "Everybody Always" and that is how I treat my clients.

My journey to mental healthcare

I love people and I love helping others! I find it to be so humbling and I'm very honored to get to know so many individuals and help them feel less alone, feel heard, seen and valued. We weren't meant to do life alone. I wish all clients knew that they already have everything within themselves to get to where they want to be! They just have to focus on their focus- being mindful of their thoughts because our thoughts lead our emotions and behaviors-they truly lead our lives. And believe that they can heal and become all that they are meant to be!

My goals for you

I would want to start the therapy process with each client by focusing on building rapport, making the client feel safe, seen and comfortable. I want to establish healthy boundaries and overall just learn how I can best support them! When some rapport has been established and I have learned more about the client, then I want to work with the client on goals that are measurable, specific to them and something that is going to be attainable in a way that doesn't make them feel pressured to move at a rate that they aren't comfortable with. Clients need to feel part of the goal setting because they know their limits and emotional capacities and I believe working on goals together really encourages clients and makes their therapy journey more manageable because they don't feel alone.

My first session with you

Warmth, empathy, a listening ear and someone seeking to understand them! The first session is all about building rapport and a strong foundation for the therapeutic relationship. I just want to make sure that my clients feel safe and comfortable. It's all about focusing on getting to know each other, no pressure at all. I'm very understanding, non-judgmental and easy-going. I'm not expecting them to be a certain way or to have it all figured out by any means. I just want them to come as they are and we will go from there! We are in this together and I'm happy to help them get started!
