Hi there, I'm Marla!

I'm MaryAnn Marla O'Malloy. I received my Masters in Counseling from Xavier University in 1991 and hold a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC-S) license and Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC-CS) in Ohio. I am obtaining my endorsement in disordered gambling and certification from WPATH. I have worked in the field for over 35 years.

My approach

I approach each session with support and compassion. I use Motivational Interviewing to reach issues. I offer EMDR for trauma and DBT for mindfulness and emotional regulation.

My focus

I enjoy working with those in recovery, using both my clinical skills and lived experience. I am very focused on trauma work and can assist you in addressing issues from your past or present.

My communication style

Knowledge brings awareness to parts of ourselves that need nurturance, acceptance, healing, and support. Although encouraged to mask or hide our true selves, my goal is to create a safe, affirming space where you can explore your self and needs with openness and support. I saw how using experience, strength, hope, and empathy could bring about significant and insightful changes in a person’s way of life. As someone who has lived their life in the gray area, often not fitting into socially created boxes, I’ve learned a lot about the importance of making space for all of my client’s identities, roles, and experiences in counseling. I am a sex-positive therapist skilled in the areas of sexuality and relationship structure minorities including consensual nonmonogamy, BDSM/Kink, leather, and those who practice alternative spiritualities. My specialization also includes anxiety management, depression, trauma, and other mood disorders and addictions including gaming and gambling.

My journey to mental healthcare

As someone who has lived their life in the gray area, often not fitting into socially created boxes, I’ve learned a lot about the importance of making space for all of my client’s identities, roles, and experiences in counseling.

My goals for you

We will work together to set goals. We can have a trajectory, but know that "life" happens, and we can adapt your goals.

My first session with you

During our first session together we will spend time identifying what you would like to focus on.
