Hello. My name is Iris Pfeffer. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker who brings a wealth of experience and compassion to the individuals, couples, and groups that I serve. My career continues to open new vistas with study, new experiences, and consultation with colleagues. I continue to find my work as a therapist the best choice I could have made for myself and look forward to exciting experiences ahead.
My approach
My approach to therapy is based on knowledge and experience utilizing such models as Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy. My style is gentle yet honest with a focus on working together with the client for success.
My focus
I am comfortable working with clients in most settings and styles. I use individual, couple, and group therapy as indicated by the client's needs. Treatment in the areas of depression, anxiety, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, and transitions are a few in my repertoire.
My communication style
I believe that it is necessary to develop rapport and trust early in a client's relationship. A session is supportive, nonjudgmental, and accepting as the client shares feelings and facts. Small, gentle increments of change build toward a journey of completion and success in an atmosphere of calm.
My journey to mental healthcare
As I continued a satisfying career, I knew that a helping profession would be my work. After completing my study as an RN, I returned to study social work through a master's degree. Each encounter whether as a clinician, administrator, supervisor, or advocate was both interesting and challenging.
My goals for you
We are a team. It is vital for the client to be totally involved in the development of goals along with the understanding of objectives and interventions. The effort to move forward can only be accomplished if goals are those that the client holds as priorities.
My first session with you
Getting to know each other is the beginning of our journey together. Knowing a little about the client in a general way such as location, likes, and interests. The assessment phase of therapy includes questions to clarify the issues and challenges, the history and background of the client, and the presenting problem.
