Hi! My name is Kirsten and I am an experienced therapist working with adolescents and adults struggling with symptoms of trauma, anxiety, and depression. I counsel through a trauma-informed lens and integrate several different therapeutic styles to fit my client's needs. I believe the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in healing and I strive to make therapy one of the safest spaces you will encounter to process, heal, and grow.
My approach
I work from a trauma-informed lens integrating IFS-informed practices, EMDR, CBT, DBT, and motivational interviewing. I am person-centered and want to meet you where you are.
My focus
My areas of specialty include trauma, anxiety-related disorders, and depression. I typically work with clients ages 13-50. Are you feeling like it’s hard to get out of bed? If one more thing is added to your to-do list, do you feel like you will collapse under the pressure? Are you lying in bed at night thinking about everything that went wrong during the day? Are you struggling to heal from a traumatic event or have you been impacted by repetitive little t traumas that you now see affecting your friendships, your work, your marriage, or your parenting? If so, let’s work together to lighten your load, bring healing to your mind and body, and help you gain skills to cope with everyday stressors.
My communication style
I am a highly empathetic person but I can also push and challenge you when needed. I believe there is nothing more healing than being seen, heard, and validated and my goal is for my clients to experience this every session. I don’t want to provide you with all the answers but I will support you and guide you through asking quality questions and giving you a space to process and come to your own conclusions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I graduated with my Master’s in Social Work with a focus on mental health and substance use in 2017. I have been working in the mental health field since I graduated. I worked in various settings including mental crisis in a hospital setting, care coordination linking patients with mental health services, and outpatient therapy. It is an honor and privilege to be able to sit across from someone and hear their story and hold space for them to heal and grow.
My goals for you
I will collaborate with you to create achievable and relevant goals. I will check in with you at each session on any barriers to working towards our goals and celebrate with you the achievements toward reaching our goals.
My first session with you
During the first session, we will spend time getting to know each other. It is an opportunity for me to ease any of your fears and answer any of your questions about therapy or myself. I will also be asking you questions to get to know you better and what brought you to therapy. We start really slow and you get to set the pace we go at.
