My name is Kathleen (Katie) Robbins and I have a Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Cincinnati. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker in the State of Ohio (LISW-S) and I also have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and am an RN in Ohio. I am currently taking coursework at Northern Kentucky University working on my Master's Degree in Nursing and my specialization as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I enjoy working with individuals experiencing a wide variety of mental health issues, including grief and loss, chronic illness, adjustment issues, career changes, self-esteem issues, anxiety, and depression. Job loss, complicated grief, grief and loss related to pets, and eating disorders are other areas of interest for me. I believe in meeting every client where they are at and helping them progress through their life challenges.
My approach
I believe in working with each client to develop a unique treatment approach to meet their needs. I mostly use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, however taking positive client interests and using them as tools to accomplish life change is often a method used in my therapy session.
My focus
I work with clients from teenagers through geriatrics.
My communication style
I use a compassionate and respectful tone in my sessions. I like for my sessions to feel comfortable and safe, where the client can express their true self and feel that they are being heard and also helped.
My journey to mental healthcare
I always enjoyed working with people and volunteered from a young age. As a teenager, I worked at a retirement living center and then worked with preschool children while in college. I graduated with my social work degree and had various social work jobs before returning to school to obtain my Master's Degree in Social Work. Much of my background was working with chronically ill populations in hospitals and outpatient clinics. I went to nursing school and when I graduated began working in Behavioral Health hospitals and out-patient settings. I'm currently working on my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Master's Degree in Nursing. I have a passion for working with people going through difficult times and needing support and guidance in navigating life's challenges. Everyone goes through difficult and challenging times in life and can use an educated, empathic, professional, to help them successfully overcome these rough times and to find positivity and happiness through therapy.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a process where the client is encouraged to be an active participant in goal development. Clients have the right to self-determination and they should direct session goal development by expressing their needs and wants from therapy. Goals need to be specific and attainable.
My first session with you
In our first session, I like to get to know some basic background history of my clients. I like to get to know them as a person and identify their strengths and challenges. I want to hear from them why they are in therapy and what they hope to accomplish in our weekly, 53-minute, sessions.
