Hello, My name is Amanda Abbott. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of New York. My approach to therapy is to meet the client where they are at, take their lead, and support them in setting and achieving goals. I am trauma-informed and trained in TF-CBT, CBT, and EMDR.
My approach
My approach to therapy is person-centered and I operate from a trauma-informed lens. Meaning, that I am focused on the client and what they express to be their needs, with an understanding of how traumatic events impact our brain development, and our reactions/ thoughts/ feelings in various environments and relationships.
My focus
Currently, I meet with clients via telehealth. I work with a diverse population, children and adults, who have experienced trauma, and/or life transitions, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and grief.
My communication style
I prefer a quiet, calm setting. I have a laid-back, listening /observing style, seeing you is just as important as hearing you. I take your lead and at times provide education, offer my observations, and therapeutically challenge as appropriate.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have enjoyed the process of being a "helper", not for my own ego purpose, but rather to be the witness to the strength and courage of humans. To sit in the presence of a person who is vulnerable, wanting change, and then seeing it all come to fruition is an honor.
My goals for you
Goal setting is a partnership, with the client as the leader.
My first session with you
In the first sessions we will get to know each other, what has brought you to therapy, and explore your hopes/ goals of therapy.
