Hi there, I'm Theresa!

Theresa Bergold, LCSW, CASAC 2. Hello! My name is Theresa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC2) in New York State. I have over a decade of experience working as a psychotherapist. I specialize in mental health issues, co-occurring disorders, trauma, and substance abuse. I'm trained in many evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-informed approaches.

My approach

I hope to work with you to develop a treatment plan that is unique to you. We will incorporate your individual goals and work on them together. We will assess for any barriers and learn new ways to break through those barriers. Learning healthier skills to promote healing, post-traumatic growth, decrease stress, reduce anxiety, challenge negative thinking patterns or negative core beliefs, further your independence, improve self-esteem and increase self-love.

My focus

I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor in the state of New York. I have over a decade of experience working with trauma, substance abuse issues, women’s mental health issues, domestic violence, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders including Borderline Personality Disorder. I have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as well as many other evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches. I have over a decade of experience working with patients who experience suicidal ideations and/or intent/planning, engage in self-harm, or are in need of any crisis management interventions. I’m Narcan trained, and educated in harm reduction treatment modalities and the many pathways to recovery. I am trained in individual psychotherapy, family therapy, couples therapy, group facilitation, and adolescent psychotherapy.

My communication style

My passion is to provide patient centered care using a variety of evidenced based treatment interventions. I love working with patients through a supportive lens, where I can hold a safe space for them to process feelings. My goal is to always encourage my patients to increase their self compassion, self esteem and self love while healing ✨🤍 Sometimes we will use humor to make things feel less intense and more relatable. We can laugh, we can cry, we can be angry .. feel all of the feelings ! Im here for you ! ✨🤍

My journey to mental healthcare

I obtained my Master's Degree in Social Work from Long Island University in 2013 as a Phi Alpha Honor Society Member. I currently am a proud member of the National Association of Social Workers. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and have a passion for helping women. I work to advocate for diverse and marginalized populations. Most importantly I specialize in domestic violence, narcissistic abuse, and unhealthy relationship issues including; codependency, substance abuse, the cycle of abuse, multiple forms of intimate partner abuse, trauma, and PTSD. I have a passion for women's empowerment and post-traumatic growth/healing ✨🤍

My goals for you

We will work together to develop a treatment plan which will be unique to you, incorporating your goals and wishes. The benefits of therapy: The patient will gain relief from symptoms, maintain or enhance daily functioning, and improve quality of life. Therapy may also assist with strengthening your self-confidence, coping with symptoms, handling strong emotions like fear, grief or anger, and enhancing your problem-solving skills with the use of healthier coping skills. I am currently accepting new patients via Telehealth only.

My first session with you

I will contact you and will walk you through how treatment works and answer your questions. This will also be an opportunity for me to learn more about you! During our first session; we will talk about some of the things that you're experiencing and some of the reasons why you're looking for therapy. We will talk about the issues but make sure to focus on all of the good things you have in your life too! We will gather information about your background and what you feel is bringing you to therapy. We will decide on a time and day that works best for you to begin receiving ongoing therapy appointments via Telehealth. Attend secure video sessions with your therapist 1-2 times per week (unless otherwise decided) to learn new skills and start feeling better. There is usually homework assigned between sessions to reinforce treatment topics. You’ll have a dedicated therapist for the full duration of your healing journey!!
