Hello, My name is Joan Brown, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have years of experience working with individuals and groups that suffer from the disease of addiction. I have also provided supportive therapy for depression and anxiety.
My approach
Motivational therapy, supportive and cognitive behavioral skills.
My focus
I am open to all populations, but specifically, my main focus has been adults. Recently I have begun to connect with adolescents via messenger and have been able to develop rapport and education regarding coping strategies.
My communication style
Empathetic support and validation techniques. I am very professional with the clients. I encourage trust and expression of emotions. I set clear boundaries by seldom speaking about my core beliefs and background.
My journey to mental healthcare
My passion is helping and supporting individuals who suffer from mental illness. I feel that this is my calling, ( most people appreciate my efforts and techniques). I am grateful to have helped someone during their crisis and I feel very happy when that happens.

I ask them why they are in therapy and when they expect to accomplish during our meetings.
My first session with you
Typically a review of their symptoms, history of mental illness both individuals and their families. How they currently cope and what works for them. Why are they seeking therapy now?
