Amanda Ellison, LMHC, I am a mental health counselor licensed in New York with about 10 years of experience working as a therapist and life coach. I also have about 20 years of law enforcement experience. I approach therapy with a mindset to help my clients achieve their goals while overcoming potential obstacles. My goal is to help my clients achieve a healthy and fulfilling life.
My approach
I follow the Good Lives Model and believe that our life goals can be achieved in healthy ways. I use mostly cognitive behavioral therapy and emotionally focused therapy to help overcome barriers to success.
My focus
I work with clients ranging from teenagers to elderly that have experienced a multitude of concerns to include, depression, anxiety, attachment issues, substance abuse issues, anger management concerns, domestic violence issues and sexual addictions. I also have helped people who have suffered trauma, including first responder traumas, and helped victims of abuse- sexual, physical and emotional.
My communication style
My therapy style is warm and engaging. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been in people helping professions. That has always been my passion. In my personal life, I strive to be loyal and supportive to my friends and family. I carry that motivation over to my career and hope to make a positive impact with my clients.
My goals for you
Clients will often tell me what their goals are. If they are uncertain, we talk about what brought them to therapy and develop goals together.
My first session with you
Clients should expect a friendly and welcoming experience where we will discuss reasons for treatment and develop a treatment plan. I will also gather some background info to assist with goal setting and getting to know the client.
