My name is Teresa Maguire, and I have been a psychotherapist (LCSW-R) for 25 years. I work mostly with adults experiencing numerous life difficulties.
My approach
I work largely from a psychodynamic and relational model, utilizing the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for insight and change. The client sets the pace of the work, and I meet them where they are at. Clients should feel comfortable enough to bring their true selves to sessions without fearing judgment. All feelings are welcome and will be examined/ explored together.
My focus
I work mostly with adults dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, gender identity concerns, relationship problems, and LGBTQ issues.
My communication style
I work from a relational approach, meaning the therapeutic relationship is central to the work. I meet clients where they are and work with them at their own pace. The client must feel safe and be able to trust in order to do the work of therapy. I work to create a safe and caring environment where clients can feel heard and validated.
My journey to mental healthcare
Being a therapist is such rewarding work. Helping people to get to know and understand themselves and create the lives they want is my passion. I enjoy providing clients with unconditional acceptance and compassion that they can internalize in order to accept themselves and live a more authentic life fully.
My goals for you
I work collaboratively with clients to set goals that are obtainable for them based on their wants, needs, and life experiences.
My first session with you
Clients should expect to be put at ease, to be able to express themselves to whatever extent they are comfortable and to feel heard without judgment.
