Welcome; my name is Dr. Eibhlin Donlon-Farry. With over 25 years of experience in the therapy field, I bring a warm, individualized, and collaborative style to the therapy process. My education and training include a Master's in Social Work from Hunter College School of Social Work and a Doctorate in Social Welfare from Adelphi University, NY. I am fully licensed as a clinical social worker for the state of New York.
My approach
My integrated clinical approaches are refined to the presenting problem but most importantly, I believe that a strong rapport and a solid therapeutic relationship are key to change in therapy. I often incorporate the following approaches in the therapeutic process; Client-Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy. With care and understanding, together, we can take a problem-solving approach to whatever is on your mind.
My focus
Typically, I like to work with adults who may be struggling with relationship issues or family conflicts. Other areas of professional focus include stress and anxiety, social phobia, ADHD, mood disorders, grief and mourning, and high-functioning autism spectrum disorder. I also have experience with children struggling with developmental or behavioral issues. Parenting issues and supporting young parents under stress are also within my professional purview.
My communication style
I enjoy creating a warm interactive and conversational style with clients. I value building a trusting environment in the therapeutic space so that clients can feel comfortable in discussing their worries and concerns as we jointly seek solutions to their problems.
My journey to mental healthcare
I immigrated to the United States from Ireland as a young woman and know very well what it’s like to start something new. I have embraced the challenges of navigating my surroundings and like to travel to new places and old haunts. As a licensed clinical therapist, I look forward to meeting new clients with their own unique stories, backgrounds, and histories. Clients are more than just the problems they present. In fact, I learn much about life in meeting each and every one of them as we travel the therapeutic journey together.
My goals for you
I believe that developing specific goals (long and short term), is an essential part of the therapeutic experience. In my experience, goals are best developed collaboratively. They are useful tools that can be referenced, re-evaluated and updated throughout the therapy journey.
My first session with you
I like to first establish a safe space and therapeutic rapport with my clients. They can often feel anxious about taking that first step in seeking help. I also believe that the first session can be a time to meet the client where they are with their concerns. Throughout the conversation, time should also be taken to assess any risk factors that the client may report. Finally, developing a working plan or contract for how future sessions will go is essential for the client as they start on their journey.
