Hi there, I'm Dana!

My name is Dana Legrande and as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 14 years of experience, I offer individual, family, and couples therapy using tailored techniques to meet your specific needs. I view counseling as a collaborative effort between client and therapist, focusing on identifying and leveraging your inner strengths and external resources to enhance healing, health, inner freedom, and peace. I strongly believe in the healing and therapeutic power of laughter.

My approach

We employ various therapeutic techniques such as psycho-education, problem identification and behavior modification, exploration of family origin issues and historical trauma, affirmative self-imaging, and long-term goal setting. For your convenience, our services are available via a HIPAA-compliant video platform.

My focus

As therapists who mostly utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy, we typically work with couples and individuals who are seeking to improve their emotional connections and resolve relational distress. Our clients often come in feeling disconnected, experiencing communication issues, or grappling with infidelity or trust issues. EFT is also effective for individuals who are dealing with emotional blockages, attachment issues, or those looking to enhance their self-awareness and emotional regulation. Through EFT, we explore patterns in relationships and work towards creating secure, resilient bonds and healthier emotional dynamics.

My communication style

We strive to create a warm, empathetic, and safe environment for my sessions. The tone is supportive and non-judgmental, aimed at fostering a space where clients feel heard, understood, and validated. Working with us often feels like a collaborative journey. We respect and honor the unique experiences and perspectives of each client, encouraging open dialogue that allows us to explore deep emotions and vulnerabilities effectively. Clients can expect to engage in a process that emphasizes emotional expression and seeks to build and strengthen secure attachments and relationships. Our approach is gentle yet direct, helping clients navigate their feelings and relationships with greater acceptance and insight. This supportive atmosphere not only aids in healing and growth but also empowers clients to be active participants in their therapeutic journey.

My journey to mental healthcare

What attracted me to a career as a therapist was a deep-seated desire to understand human behavior and emotions and to make a tangible difference in people's lives. The ability to provide support and guidance that can lead to profound personal growth and healing is immensely fulfilling. As a Black therapist, my drive to make therapy more accessible to people of color is fueled by the recognition of the significant disparities in mental health services affecting these communities. Historical trauma, cultural stigma around mental health, and a lack of culturally competent care are barriers that disproportionately impact people of color. My passion lies in addressing these gaps by creating a therapeutic space that is not only accessible but also affirming the cultural and individual experiences of people of color. My work is driven by a commitment to enhance understanding, reduce stigma, and promote healing in communities often underrepresented and underserved in mental health. By increasing accessibility and providing culturally responsive care, I aim to empower individuals and facilitate greater emotional wellness and resilience in the community.

My goals for you

We approach goal setting with clients through a collaborative and client-centered process. Initially, we spend time understanding the client's concerns, values, and aspirations to ensure that the goals we set are personally meaningful and tailored to their specific needs. This involves active listening, empathizing, and sometimes challenging the client to delve deeper into their desires and motivations. Together, we define clear, achievable goals, breaking them down into smaller, manageable objectives that can provide a sense of progress and accomplishment. We encourage clients to reflect on their goals regularly and adjust them as needed, ensuring they remain relevant and aligned with their evolving personal growth.

My first session with you

During a first session, clients can expect a welcoming and respectful environment where they feel safe to share their stories and concerns. The initial session is primarily about building rapport and establishing trust, which are crucial for effective therapy. We will start by discussing the confidentiality agreement, ensuring clients understand their rights and the secure nature of our sessions. We encourage clients to ask any questions they have about the therapy process, my approach, or any other concerns they might want to address. We'll then explore the reasons they sought therapy, discussing current challenges and their expectations for the therapeutic journey. This conversation helps in clarifying goals and setting the direction for future sessions.
