My name s Paula Odom, and I am a New York State licensed clinical social worker. I am a solution-focused therapist who has extensive experience working with adults (18-70) who are struggling with life transitions and unresolved trauma.
My approach
I am a strengths-based, solution-focused Clinician with 30 years of experience. I am client-focused, and treatment would be based specifically on where you are on your journey and your needs.
My focus
I believe in treating people with sensitivity, compassion, and respect. I've worked extensively with adults who have a history of trauma, including the foster care system and other forms of abusive childhood experiences. As an Ally, I am also experienced working with the LGBTQIA+ community.
My communication style
I am committed to creating a nonjudgemental, welcoming environment with my clients. It is important that you feel safe and supported during our work together.
My journey to mental healthcare
I've been the person people came to for as long as I can remember, but it is my early work as a social worker that led me to do clinical work full-time. Early in my career, I worked as a caseworker in foster care and then transitioned to working with women who were victims of domestic violence. I recognized how damaging unresolved trauma is. I also recognized that representation mattered and that there was a need for people more clinicians of color. I feel honored to be in the position to help people, and I take my role and profession seriously.
My goals for you
Goals are mutually agreed upon; you are the lead related to the pace and direction of the work. My job is to facilitate helping you get to desired outcomes in a safe and supportive way.
My first session with you
During our first session, you should expect to feel comfortable moving and sharing at your own desired pace. It is for us to begin getting to know one another, and you should share as much or as little as you are comfortable with.
