Hello! My name is Gabriell (Gabbi) Gereau, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of NY, though I now live in Massachusetts. I love helping others improve their mental health and overall well-being, whether it be through play therapy, mindfulness exercises, talking through past trauma, or focusing on day-to-day stressors.
My approach
I use an eclectic approach to therapy, meaning that I don’t believe that one theory fits every person's needs. My primary approaches include play therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and solution-focused practices. If one approach does not seem to be working for us, we can switch it up at any time and try new things.
My focus
Navigating life as a child, teenager, or young adult can be difficult. You are constantly learning new things, facing new challenges, and trying to adapt to our ever-changing world. I have years of experience helping young people through challenges with anxiety, depression, Autism, adjustment disorders, and more. I also love working with individuals struggling with stressors related to intellectual or developmental disabilities.
My communication style
I have been told that my sessions feel laid back and conversational, which I believe helps my clients feel comfortable enough to open up and be able to make progress. I love being able to laugh with my clients as well as provide a space for serious emotions and insights.
My first session with you
During our first session, I will ask you some questions about yourself or your child, including information about goals for counseling, family and social history, development, past experiences with counseling, and more. You will have opportunities to ask questions about me and the counseling process (or about my cats who occasionally like to make an appearance), and we will set up plans for future sessions.
