Hi. How are you today? My name is Beth Walker. I am a licensed clinical social worker. I see counseling as a collaboration where I walk beside you on your healing journey, and I really appreciate client input, especially if I am missing the mark. My areas of practice include: depression, anxiety, OCD, emotion regulation, trauma, Bipolar disorder, Schizophrenia, addictions, and dissociation. Treatment interventions I am trained in include: Trauma Informed Care, CBT, DBT, Emotion Focused Couple therapy, EMDR, CPT, Ego State therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Schema therapy.
My approach
Much of successful therapy is grounded in rapport building and establishing trust, and it is client-driven, which means I work for you. I follow your lead while suggesting various therapeutic interventions and offer coping skill instruction for managing symptoms to reduce your distress level. I am a good listener, providing empathy, normalizing emotions, wondering if there is another way to view a situation, again to reduce your distress level, and I point out client strengths and encourage empowerment and active problem solving on the part of the client.
My focus
I work with ages 13-100 of all backgrounds and orientations. I care about my fellow human beings and am open to all political viewpoints and value systems, including religion or lack thereof. I am comfortable working in-person or virtually.
My communication style
I offer a calm, soothing therapeutic setting.
My journey to mental healthcare
I always wanted to do this as it comes naturally and fits in with my value system and desires to give back to others.
My goals for you
This is client driven using their wording as they describe goals for treatment.
My first session with you
Rapport building, comfort, history taking, empathy, in a non-judgmental manner where they leave the session feeling hopeful, feeling understood, and with some coping skills to experiment with between sessions.
