My name is Atasha Codginton I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of New York. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts & parenting issues including parents with Special Needs children. I believe you are the expert of your story and that you have many issues that will assist you in overcoming things that challenge you. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support and empower you in that journey.
My approach
My approach is CBT, cognitive behavioral therapy. How you think influences your behavior and allows for change if needed to happen.
My focus
I typically work with adults 18 to 66. My background is in teaching students with Special Needs so I am comfortable treating individuals with diagnoses and most importantly families of children with Special Needs. I treat clients with a myriad of issues including life changes, anxiety, and depression.
My communication style
I have a gentle yet firm tone. I am more of a coach and cheerleader in your life.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have always been interested in human behavior and what drives people to think and behave the way they do. I believe no more than ever it’s important for people to have resources at their disposal to help them cope with the challenges that come with living life. I am especially encouraged to help those who never thought therapy was important or reachable.
My goals for you
I work at my client's pace yet if a push is needed I am able to challenge them to make decisions and set goals.
My first session with you
A listening ear. Listening to my clients and allowing them to talk is paramount to my sessions and then harnessing in on the issues at hand and coming up with solutions for them.
