Hi there, I'm Marija!

Hi! My name is Marija Marinkovic and I am a licensed clinical social worker licensed to practice in NY. As a psychotherapist of 9+ years, I prioritize the uniqueness of each individual's history, experiences, and emotional landscape. My approach centers on fostering a strong therapeutic partnership that is tailored to the specific needs of each client. I work with clients who experience anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and OCD.

My approach

I utilize Person-Centered Approach which allows me to explore feelings and self-concept. I utilize CBT, Solution-Focused, Acceptance and Commitment, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I apply a keen attunement to my clients' emotions and needs. I prioritize flexibility in my methods, skillfully adapting and shifting between various therapeutic approaches to best support each individual.

My focus

I primarily work with adults (18+) and older adults (65+). I typically treat individuals with the scope of anxiety and depressive disorders, OCD, and trauma. I have years of experience working with individuals that suffer from various long-term chronic illnesses and neurological conditions such as stroke, brain injury, and multiple sclerosis.

My communication style

My approach to therapy is warm and supportive, creating a safe space for clients to explore their emotions. At the same time, I believe in the importance of gently challenging them when appropriate. This balance helps clients gain new insights and perspectives, encouraging personal growth and resilience. By combining empathy with thoughtful challenges, you empower clients to confront difficult issues and move forward on their healing journey. This dynamic fosters a deeper understanding of themselves and facilitates meaningful progress in their lives.

My journey to mental healthcare

I became a therapist because I’ve always had a strong drive to help people. My prior career in music allowed me to connect with others, but I often found myself drawn to their histories and life experiences. People would confide in me, and I realized I wanted to do more to support them. Recognizing that I didn’t yet have the skills to truly help, I decided to shift my career and pursue a degree in therapy. This educational journey equipped me with the necessary tools and techniques to provide meaningful support, enabling me to fulfill my passion for helping others on a deeper level.

My goals for you

By combining empathy with structured guidance, I create a supportive framework for clients to work toward their goals, empowering them to make meaningful changes in their lives.

My first session with you

During our first session, my primary goal is to learn as much as possible about you. This helps me gain a deeper understanding of your unique experiences, challenges, and aspirations. By exploring your background, values, and concerns, I can better identify the most effective ways we can work together to accomplish your therapy goals.
