My name is Katherine Wheeler and I'm an LCSW as well as a TBRI Practitioner. I love to help families gain hope, heal, and then thrive. I specialize in trauma recovery and attachment injuries, with a particular focus on adoption and foster care.
My approach
I am adept with many modalities of therapy and will tailor care to your strengths and needs. All of my work is attachment-based and sensory-rich. You will hear TBRI and IFS language sprinkled throughout, even if that's not the primary model, because I love them so much!
My focus
Helping individuals and families who have experienced hard things that led to feelings of anxiety, depression, confusion, and questioning their worth, is my passion.
My communication style
I want all of my clients to feel safe and comfortable, physically and relationally. Most sessions begin with a very brief assessment of how the client is doing and end with an assessment of the session. This feedback helps us to be on the same track together.
My journey to mental healthcare
Ironically, right out of school, I worked in a mental health clinic. I left there saying I would never do therapy again! Then, I needed to become the expert my family needed and couldn't find. This led me to TBRI and then to neuroscience and a new passion was formed.
My goals for you
Clients are the captains. They tell me where they want to go. I'm the navigator. My job is to help them get there. Oftentimes, when someone is in the midst of a struggle, they just don't really know. In these situations, with some conversation, we can figure it out together.
My first session with you
In our first appointment, we will discuss confidentiality, and begin to get to one another. If ever someone doesn't feel I am the right fit, I want to know this so I can help them get to the right person. We will discuss goals and next steps.
