My name is Dezarie (Dez) Moskal. I am a licensed clinical psychologist (Ph.D.) who values helping my clients live their best lives. Sometimes life deals us a tough hand, and although you have the skills to have made it this far, we can work together to help you not just "live" but excel in the life you want to live.
My approach
I use a client-centered approach to therapy with a heavy emphasis on cognitive-behavioral, acceptance, and mindfulness orientations. I also have experience with short-term dynamic therapy.
My focus
I have worked with a diverse range of adult clients, including those experiencing depression, anxiety, chronic pain, life transitions, PTSD, ADHD, and alcohol and substance use. I have 10 years of experience working with Veterans. I have also worked with college students and people who identify as BIPOC and LGBTQ+.
My communication style
It is my utmost priority to create a safe, caring, and non-judgmental environment for everyone I work with. You can expect down-to-earth, open, and honest communication. At times, I challenge my clients, but I do so kindly and respectfully to help them reach their goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
One of my strongest values is improving the lives of others. I was initially interested in practicing physical medicine but pivoted to psychology after learning of the unmet needs of patients. Patients were told what to do/not do to be healthier/solve their problems (e.g., ‚ Exercise more; don't think so negatively; don't worry about it; don't focus on the pain; don't drink). However, the how of getting past barriers and reaching goals was not addressed. I enjoy finding answers and solving problems, especially when it is in service of helping others. I am driven to continue in this line of work because of the fulfillment I experience when I see my clients reach their goals.
My goals for you
Goal setting is done collaboratively, working as a team. I have expertise and training in the science and practice of psychology, and you are the expert on yourself and your life. Together, we can generate goals to help you get where you want to be.
My first session with you
In the first session, my goal is to get a sense of who you are, what concerns you have been having recently, and your goals for therapy. Additionally, I encourage you to use the first session as a gauge for whether we are a good fit for one another.
