My name is Ruth Dubon. I am a board-licensed psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience in the mental health field. I graduated from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College with a Masters's degree in Social Work specializing in clinical work. For the past 7 years, I have been providing psychotherapy and helping individuals: -Reach an optimal level of functioning -Increase their mental and emotional health -Heal from trauma and childhood wounds -Address negative thoughts and maladaptive ways of thinking -Learn how to set necessary boundaries for themselves and with others -Increase insight into what drives their undesired behaviors -Improve self-esteem and confidence -Learn how to identify and be comfortable with emotions -Point out defense mechanisms to improve communication, self-awareness, and relationships. -Improve interpersonal skills, and -Find their true self I specialize in psychodynamic psychotherapy, inner-child work, and cognitive behavioral therapy. I enjoy working with teenagers and adults. I'm known to have a high success rate in getting my patients to achieve their goals in therapy. I am also bilingual and can offer sessions in Spanish. I have experience working with patients who struggle with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder, low self-esteem, identity issues, family/relationship conflicts, and adjustment disorder. My style of therapy is interactive with my patients. I listen carefully while making connections about what may be causing your presenting problems. I then relay back to you what I am hearing and gaining from your narrative. I am analytical and empathetic, and I believe in the power of the relationship between therapist and patient. Patients describe me as warm and caring, approachable, and professional. My goal is to offer a corrective experience to all of my patients who may not have experienced positive reactions toward their authentic selves. I will help you find your true self and teach you to love who you are while helping you identify when you're operating in a "false self." I will help you connect with your strengths and will be confrontational when it benefits you.
