My name is Christopher Piccininni and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Long Island, New York, and working with clients statewide via telehealth. I have experience working with adolescents and adults of all ages with various diagnoses, including depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, ADHD, schizophrenia as well as impulse control disorders. Various approaches may be used to help my clients make progress and start feeling better.
My approach
I most frequently use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, as both modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality, and allow us to work together toward progress. I am open to utilizing different approaches based on the needs of each individual I work with.
My focus
I have found that my style and approach are a good fit for adolescents, teens, and adults of all ages who may be dealing with the challenges of life transitions and social pressures. I will work to help clients get a better understanding of their lives so they can achieve their goals and live life more positively.
My communication style
My communication style is calm, accommodating, and personable. I want my clients to feel comfortable talking with me about anything, and I pride myself on my ability to listen without judgment
My journey to mental healthcare
As a kid, I always wanted to help people and as an adult, I discovered social work was a great way to do just that. For 20 years I focused on working with children and adolescents but for the last 10 years I have worked mainly with adults in state clinics so I have experience working with all ages
My goals for you
My hope is always to set goals with my clients not for them. This includes helping them to feel as comfortable as possible to build a trusting relationship. Throughout the course of treatment, clients are encouraged to explore goals and modify them as necessary.
My first session with you
Ideally, what you can expect from our first session together is for you to find a supportive environment in which we would spend the majority of our time talking about how you are feeling, what brings you to therapy, and what you may expect to get out of therapy. I would hope to build an initial connection and get a sense of what to focus on to help you progress through life.
