My name is Sabrina Gonzalez, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in New York City. I work with adult clients via telehealth and specialize in anxiety, depression, stress, and adjustment disorders. I focus on utilizing Cognitive Behavioral and Strengths-Based Therapy techniques to help clients confront their concerns with their resiliency and our therapeutic alliance.
My approach
My approach is tailored to the client's needs and presentation at the time of therapy. There is no "one size fits all approach," I assist clients by most frequently using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Strength-Based Therapy since both modalities help with self-awareness and equip clients with tools to move forward in their lives.
My focus
I work with adult clients dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression. I aim to help my clients cope with life changes, transitions, and pressures by providing them with useful skills and validation to promote an overall healthy and balanced outlook on life.
My communication style
My communication style is warm, welcoming, and personable. I truly value the rapport-building stage of my therapeutic alliance with clients. I can say that clients have felt heard, understood, and validated in our sessions.
My journey to mental healthcare
I decided to become a therapist after personal exploration in college. During my first two years, I was undecided about declaring a major but noticed a pattern of taking mostly Psychology courses. I was advised to declare Psychology by my career counselor at the time and decided to work as a Peer Counselor in the College Counseling Center. The rest is history. I enjoy learning about human behavior and talking to people about their concerns/issues. My goal is to provide a listening ear and tools to show clients they can go far with their inner resilience.
My goals for you
I approach goal setting with clients by becoming familiar with their needs, building trust and equipping clients with the tools to identify their main needs in sessions. I believe that clients are their own experts in their lives and by working together we can work on their goals and track ongoing progress.
My first session with you
During our first session, clients can expect open communication about their present feelings, recent events that are significant to the client, and questions to guide us towards learning more about each other. Overall my aim is to build a connection and rapport with clients to set a good foundation for future sessions. Clients can also expect a brief discussion on their overall view of mental health.
