I am Kristy Peters, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and I earned a degree in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine at the University of Western States. I have several years of experience in the behavioral health, counseling, and therapy field. I have been able to provide help and support for a multitude of people with a variety of issues and complicated situations, including trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships, substance use, and other emotional issues.
My approach
My therapeutic approach includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Therapy, as well other approaches that best fit the client. I believe that therapy is most effective when working as a team towards reaching your goals and a healthy mindset.
My focus
I work with adults and adolescents. My focus is anxiety, stress, trauma, and substance abuse.
My communication style
I have a calm and relaxed environment, without judgment or pressure. I believe in meeting a person "where they are at” because it helps determine the direction of the client’s goals.
My journey to mental healthcare
My journey is special because there is a history of mental health and substance use within my family. Over time, I watched them struggle without professional support due to the stigmas attached to it. This motivated me to become a therapist, help reduce barriers, and provide my clients with the help they need in a safe environment.
My goals for you
I work in unison with my client to establish appropriate and attainable goals.
My first session with you
I work on building a rapport through gentle questioning, determining the client's concerns, and what they would like to achieve through counseling. The first session is about developing a comfortable working relationship so the client feels safe and without feeling judged.
