My journey to mental healthcare
I was attracted to a career in counseling while in college. During my undergraduate years, I got a job working with children in group homes which I found very rewarding. After obtaining my undergraduate degree, I received a full scholarship to obtain a graduate degree in counseling. I am now a licensed therapist with over 20 years of experience in a career that I continue to enjoy.
My goals for you
My approach to goal setting with clients involves using a collaborative process working with clients. As a therapist I utilize person-centered therapy which emphasizes working with clients as equal partners, and allowing clients to take the lead. My role as a therapist is to create a safe space for clients, to listen actively and empathically without judgement. This approach values client autonomy, self awareness, and growth.
My first session with you
During a client’s first session with me you will likely experience answering a lot of questions about you, what are your symptoms, how you cope, and expectations in therapy. Your first session may also be emotionally draining as painful memories may surface. You may also experience fear about opening up but that’s okay. It is okay to be honest. Remember not every session will be like the first one. You will become more comfortable with expressing yourself as you continue attending sessions. .
